Named after an Iconic Ironstone Chapel, Chapel Hill Winery was built by Methodist settlers and officially opened on December 5, 1865. With its location in McLaren Vale, this place is ideal for any celebration. McLaren Vale is only 42km from Adelaide and can boast natural beauty, food, wine and art culture. This makes it one of Australia’s finest tourism regions.
Initially, it served as a place of worship, social gathering, and school for local farming families, on December 5, 1965, the chapel was officially closed after 100 years of use.
In 1983, Pam Dunsford led the growth of Chapel Hill Winery, leading to many acclaims and awards for Chapel Hill Winery. Many of these great wines from this time are still drinking beautifully today.
Currently, Chapel Hill is a beautiful vineyard that boasts ancient rocks, elevation, and beautiful trees and is well known as one of the best wedding venues in South Australia. It has a chalet-style home in the vines with sweeping views through the Onkaparinga Gorge and to the Gulf of St. Vincent.
Chapel Hill has been in the business of hosting wedding ceremonies and receptions for over 100 years. The allure of the lush backdrop of vineyards and the ocean makes them stand out as one of the best wedding venues.
Although weddings can be held in the chapel, with most being held outside on the sweeping lawns – your reception and accommodation will be at The Retreat. It is private and secluded, with magic views and plenty of space, making it the perfect place for a wedding.
It is a purpose-built chalet-style venue with grand loft ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glass windows and big open fireplaces. Its modern finishes are blended perfectly with the rustic warmth of the stone building, giving it a luxurious feel.
There is accommodation available for some of your guests, and is included in the venue hire package. Breakfast the next morning is also included. This means you do not have to bid farewell to your guest on the wedding day but can have breakfast with them after the wedding before bidding them adieu.
There are seven recently renovated suites available within The Retreat. If this isn’t enough, you may decide to rent a standalone guest house. The guesthouse comprises six double rooms and a large entertaining area. You may choose to get rooms with terrific views, as this is an extra option available.
It’s a perfect space to prepare for the day with your bridesmaids or groomsmen while discreetly watching guests arrive. The air-conditioned accommodation offers fireplaces and DVD players. Rooms open to patios. Kitchens offer fridges, stovetops, microwaves and kitchenware and utensils. Additionally, rooms include coffee or tea makers and an ironing board.
Apart from offering accommodation, Chapel Hill Winery offers a range of packages, including catering and transport.

The dining room, often used for the reception, can seat up to 85 guests for a seated reception and 150 for a cocktail celebration. The dining room offers a breathtaking view and opens onto a large deck perfect for an outdoor lounge area, vast reception space or an outdoor dancefloor.
You may decide to cover this space with a pavilion in case of bad weather to allow for complete peace of mind. These combined spaces can fit in a seated function of up to 100 guests. Two hundred guests if your wedding reception is cocktail-style.
