Right on the waterfront of Adelaide’s Outer Harbour sits the distinguished sailing club, the Royal South Australian Yacht Squadron. With more than 150 years of history under its belt, this venue combines the best of old world and modern charms – there’s a rustic converted boat house called The Dinghy Shed, as well as several recently renovated function spaces. Both indoor and outdoor weddings can take place here, with all options incorporating stunning marina views.
The large sweeping Marina Lawn area provides a sunny outdoor ceremony option, as well as the Quarterdeck near the stylish Jimmy’s Bar, the Flags & Cannons Platform or inside the Dinghy Shed itself. Hire of each ceremony area includes chairs, carpets, potted white silk orchids and a signing table, depending on the location choice. The first floor of the clubhouse holds the Squadron Dining Room, the largest of the function spaces, boasting an impressive entrance foyer, bar and generous dance floor for receptions. There’s a huge balcony overlooking the marina, perfect for pre-dinner drinks with sunset views. All function spaces include use of WIFI with video streaming capabilities, plasma TV’s, iPod docks, CD players, and two hand-held microphones.
The Royal South Australian Yacht Squadron can host between 40 and 300 guests for ceremonies, and between 50 and 200 guests for receptions. The venue is happy to personalise ceremony, reception and catering choices, and also offer the following packages for ease of organisation and transparency of price:
- Marina Package
The most affordable of the package options, the Marina package requires a minimum of 60 guests. The menu includes a choice of entree, choice of two main courses served by alternate drop, the bride and groom’s wedding cake for dessert and a coffee and cake selection. This package includes a Royal South Australian Yacht Squadron lantern table centrepiece.
- Squadron Package

The beverage package lasts for 4.5 hours with the option to extend.
The bride and groom can have photographs taken with the beautiful white clubhouse and its umbrellas in the background, or along one of the many piers weaving between the yachts. With permission, photos can even be taken aboard a yacht, or perhaps walking up or down a gangplank. There are a few coastal walkways and reserves nearby, such as Mutton Cove Conservation Reserve and Lady Ruthven Reserve, for more natural scenery options.
The Royal South Australian Yacht Squadron is about 30 minutes drive from the CBD, or 45 minutes by direct train from the central station. The Outer Harbour railway station is conveniently located right across the road from the venue, easily connecting accommodation options in the city, or along the way in nearby Semaphore and Port Adelaide.
For a breezy coastal ceremony or romantic reception with fairy lights reflecting off the marina, the Royal South Australian Yacht club is a beautiful choice of venue for sea-side weddings.
